First images of a new project: a replicable guest house designed to be constructed quickly and cost-effectively in the mountain west.
Sometimes we break our own rules. This is a project without a site or a client, architecture as a product and object. For every other building we’ve ever designed, we worked with specific clients and specific properties. We design spaces around the intended users and land, resulting in work that is informed by the people they shelter and integrated into the landscapes we are entrusted with.
This 1,000 square foot guest cabin is designed to be integrated into a diverse selection of potential sites, appeal to a broad range of potential buyers, and be built efficiently and on a budget. Every square foot of space has a function yet maintains the flexibility for varied uses. A bifurcated plan separates public and private and eliminates hallways entirely. A central core of the building houses the mechanical, electric and plumbing elements, while a pair of bedrooms and an open plan living space are pushed to the outside, accessing views and natural light.
The images below show a couple variations we are working through as we move towards a single design.
